Launch of Home Dog Food Website

Growing up on a farm introduced me to animals and created a permanent mindset connection to first dogs, then horses, chickens, cows, birds, mule deer, cats, squirrels, bees, badgers and skunks, in that order. Each animal (or insect), has a distinct, revered place in my life’s memories.

Today, we have the same bond and love for our dog Molly, as our family did with my dog Loopy, many years ago. A significant difference from then to now is that Molly lives in the house, not outside.  Another difference is the food we feed our dog.  Then it was mostly table scraps including bones, left over mashed potatoes, an occasional egg, tomatoes, beans, oatmeal mush with a cup of whole milk from grandpa’s dairy and on special occasions, a can of Skippy dog food.

Our last dog Cinder, died when he was 10 years old.  It seemed his life was cut short and he should have lived longer.   From when he was a puppy, until he died of cancer, he was fed high end dry dog food from a bag.  Since then, we are taking a closer look at what we feed Molly in hopes of giving her a full length life of good health.  We are giving this project much more than just a casual effort and have launched a new blog at HomeDogFood.com.   The site is dedicated to sharing information about making home dog food.

Natural Eggs

Table Food and Healthy Dogs

Our dog Molly is a 7 month old Miniature Schnauzer who is much like a new child in our home. Even before we sit down to eat, I am thinking, why can’t I give her a bit of this human food that I know she would love to eat? I mean stuff like a bit of turkey gristle or a pork chop bone or a few left over scrambled eggs. Is this "natural" food bad for her?
